Legend has it that a goat named El cid helped Navy's football team topple Army in a bitter contest at Annapolis. So pleased were the Navy men, that the goat was officially adopted as the team's mascot.
The mascot was given the official name "Bill" in memory of Cmdr. C.M. Chester in the early 1900's.
